[Event Report] The 26th Special Breakfast Meeting: Japan-US Partnership on Development Assistance in the Global Health Field
date : 6/30/2014
As the two largest contributors of development assistance, the US and Japan are natural partners in improving health outcomes in developing countries. However, the two countries differ greatly in the way aid is distributed, delivered, and evaluated and, although a warm relationship exists, a strong global health partnership between the two countries remains elusive.
Dr. Jay Singh, a leading conflict and development expert as well as
the current head of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in
Japan, has marked the end of his term and is preparing to embark on his next
development mission. Prior to leaving Tokyo, Dr. Singh joined HGPI for a
Special Breakfast Meeting to discuss his impressions of the Japanese approach
to development and to comment on the ways in which Japan and the US can further
impact global health by deepening partnerships and fostering new approaches to
ongoing health and healthcare issues in developing countries.
This event was held in English with simultaneous translation available.
